A History of the World: Partnership Projects between the British Museum and the BBC
A History of the World is a partnership between the BBC and the British Museum that focuses on world history, looking at man-made objects raning from flint tools to modern objects.
A History of the World in 100 Objects. There will be a total of 100 programmes, each focusing on a different object in the British Museum’s collection. Each week has it’s own theme, and the programmes will be broadcast in three blocks, in January, May and August 2010.
The website is really interesting to explore, you can search individual objects, or through uniting themes such as age of the object, its use or geographical location. You can zoom into the objects and key points on the objects are highlighed as well. Museums from other parts of the UK have also added about 600 objects to the site, and members of the public are encouraged to do the same. At least 350 Museum have joined and they’re hoping for more to join.
The website also contains a blog, which has all the most recent news of the programme. It also has the pod casts of each of the shows after they’ve been published, and you can download them as MP3 files to your computer or an MP3 player.
