A memory of the world
The large British Museum has well-organised storage, displays and education programmes – it has a role for people in both the UK and those who live elsewhere. It is almost like “a memory of the world”.
The International Training Programme gives me ideas on how we can record and document objects, but also the displays are well-lit and clear. Before travelling to the UK, I asked myself why we don’t request the British Museum to return our objects to Sudan , but now that I have been here, seeing so many visitors, I say perhaps more objects should should be brought to the British Museum.
Learning about object condition checks
Now I can say the time here has taught me practical ideas on display, storage and label-writing, which I can use in Khalifa House Museum, Khartoum – there are now some mistakes in the display, and crowded showcases.
