ITP 2013 : August 21- Elghazafi Yousif
According to the well-organized daily programme of the International Training programme 2013, we started the day of 21.08.2103 at 09:30 AM from Schafer House, with Anna Stevens. We discussed while we are walking to Petrie Museum.
Frankly; the good welcoming of Tonya Nelson “The Museum Manager” and the short discussion we met with the curators and the technical of the museum has had a significant impact to our day at Petrie Museum.
The effective introduction and the historical background to Petrie museum which we got from Tracey Golding “Visitor Services and Information Officer” let me understand the unique philosophy they made to display much objects into short space, more than 80,000 objects, making it one of the greatest collections of Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology in the world. It illustrates life in the Nile Valley from prehistory through the time of the pharaohs, the Ptolemaic period. and a huge collection of archives. I was impressed by the great effort carried out by the curators to captivate visitors and facilitate access for researchers.
A series of valuable lectures and useful discussions in the afternoon: Debbie Challis “Public Programmer” concerning the public programming; Alice Stevenson “Curator” about the documenting objects, archives and histories; Nada Sheikh-Yasin “Project Officer ECB”: Guest curation and the Egyptian Cultural Bureau project; Jan Picton “Secretary of the Friends of the Petrie Museum” about the museum friends organization; and the wonderful presentation by Giancard Amati “Digital Developer” showing the 3D methods using in Petrie Museum.
At 17:30 we met all the participants and the ITP mangers at the BM to join the afternoon in London eye… What a wonderful day I passed today! Intensive knowledge, homogeneity of ITP members, and I enjoyed London city.
