The World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre
The World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre (WCEC) is the largest building project undertaken by The British Museum since the opening of the Great Court in 2000. The WCEC will address a number of issues highlighted in the Museum’s master plan, and will deliver:
- A new exhibitions suite, which will allow the Museum to continue to host exhibitions to an international standard.
- The International Conservation and Science Centre to include laboratories, conservation studios, workshops and offices.
- A Collections Management Hub for the reception and dispatch of objects, and a new suite of stores, workshops and loan facilities.
- Improvements to the Museum’s storage capacity, which will allow the consolidation of the anthropological collection to the main Bloomsbury site.
You can explore the WCEC building, which is located at the north-west corner of the Bloomsbury site, here:

Leventis Foundation and the family of Constantine Leventis, the Clothworkers’ Foundation, the Fidelity U.K. Foundation, Sir Siegmund Warburg’s Voluntary Settlement, the Band Trust as well as on going funding from The Department for Culture Media and Sport.
