Davit Poghosyan – Dresden Research Fellow 2016 – Final Report!
Since 2014 the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) has worked together with the International Training Programme (ITP) to offer a series of research fellowships to selected alumni, to further support fellows’ professional development and international connections, and for Dresden museums to increase understanding of their global collections.
Research fellows spend up to three months on the team of one of SKD’s international research projects, sharing knowledge, increasing skills and expanding their own
professional networks and those of their Dresden colleagues.
We have been delighted to see a diverse range of ITP alumni given the opportunity to work with the SKD over the past three years, including Sun Yue (China, ITP 2010) Antonio Ntimbanga (Mozambique, ITP 2009), Constantinos Vasiliadis (Greece, ITP 2014) and Ayman Al-Shweiki (Palestine, ITP 2012).
As an ITP Dresden Fellow in 2015 and then as a Research Fellow in 2016, Davit Poghosyan (Armenia, ITP 2015) was invited to share his expertise and experiences with colleagues of the Grassi Museum of Ethnology in Leipzig. The museum is one of the oldest ethnographic museums in Germany with almost 200,000 objects from all over the world.
Davit worked with Dr. Miriam Schultze on educational and engagement activities and conducted research in this area, including observing museum communication practices and educational activities, conducting visitor research, engaging with colleagues, and working on a final education project.
It seems that Davit had a very productive time in Germany and has made some fascinating insights – his project is attached below for further reading!
Mohamed Abdelsalam (Egypt, ITP 2013) is currently finishing his own SKD Research Fellowship project, which we will be sharing soon.
The Dresden Research Fellowships have been a fantastic opportunity for our alumni and the ITP network as a whole, and we hope to be able to offer more research projects for our ITP fellows in the future.
