ITP+ Photography and Documentation: Day 1!

We have been happily reunited with ten ITP fellows who have joined us for a week for our second ITP+ course, Photography and Documentation:

Gertrude Aba Eyifa-Dzidzienyo (ITP 2009, Ghana)

Shuzheng Liu (ITP 2015, China)

Mokgabudi Amos Letsoalo (ITP 2008, South Africa)

Dora Jok (ITP 2016, Malaysia)

Fadzai Muchemwa (ITP 2017, Zimbabwe)

Ikhlas Alkrm (ITP 2016, Sudan)

Ntombovuyo Tywakadi (ITP 2016, South Africa)

Paul Michael (ITP 2012, Tanzania)

Assayed Elbanna (ITP 2007, Egypt)

Waed Awesat (ITP 2014, Palestine)

Yesterday was our first day. After an introduction from the ITP team and a chance to get to know each other, John Williams (Chief Photographer) and Sara Kayser (Project Curator: Egypt Documentation) explained the objectives of the programme.
After lunch in the staff canteen, the fellows had their first sessions with Sara, discussing benefits, challenges and policies around documentation.

Some interesting issues related have already come up through fellows’ preliminary conversations, such as:
-How to document video artworks
-What is the object – a box or its contents?
-‘Too many hands’ – restricting access to databases
-Multiple accession numbers
-What to do when software lets you down

We look forward to today’s continuation of the discussion.

It is a real shame that we could not be joined by ITP fellows Huzoor Choudhry, Soad Fayez and Saeed Bayashoot, and we are thinking of them and missing their presence! But we thank Assayed Elbanna and Waed Awesat, who were able to organise joining us at short notice to ensure a full and diverse ITP group for this course!
