Welcome Back to WPI: An Update on Plans for an Object in Focus Online Exhibition
Over the last four years the ITP has teamed up with students from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts, USA, to work on legacy projects for the network.
With the support of the ITP network (completing surveys, sharing their professional advice and communicating their needs) these students have managed to produce great resources which the ITP team use to facilitate legacy work throughout the year.
WPI 2019 worked to create our first ever online exhibition, Bristol: The Bigger Picture. And in 2020, we had plans for a new WPI group to create an online space to showcase the Object in focus projects created by our ITP fellows.
Object in focus has become a key aspect of the ITP summer programme. Using their skills and experience, and the knowledge gained throughout the Summer Programme, the fellows create and propose an exhibition based around a single object on a given theme. Fellows are encouraged to think not just about objects, concepts and interpretation, but also audiences, marketing, merchandising and events.
Unfortunately, due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, WPI 2020 were unable to travel to the UK and had to switch to working on a remote project. Despite the difficult circumstances, the group were able to create a design and framework for an Object in focus online exhibition.
We are now very happy to have to a new group from WPI to work with us again to complete this project. This new group will build upon the work completed by WPI 2020, while contributing their own ideas and designs to complete an Object in focus online exhibition.
This project is part of the group’s university studies; the project is carried out in one university term, working with the ITP team remotely on the online exhibition. The group will formally introduce themselves to you via the blog in the coming weeks when they begin the project at the end of May.
