Written by Claire Messenger, Manager, International Training Programme.

We are delighted to share the ITP Conference Grant 2023 report written by Hadeer Ahmed Mohamed Belal, Registrar at the Egyptian Museum Cairo (Egypt, ITP Fellow 2013).

Hadeer, who is currently a Registrar at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, used her support grant to travel to the International Congress of Egyptologists, ICE XIII in Leiden, the Netherlands from 6 – 11 August 2023.

Hadeer photographed in Leiden at the conference,

The ICEXIII 2023, is one of the greatest conferences for Egyptologists to exchange and update their knowledge on the field of Egyptology.  While there, Hadeer was able to meet with many fellow Egyptologists and catch-up with ITP colleagues, Sayed Abu El Fadl (NMEC), Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Salam (AinShams University) and Neal Spencer (Deputy Director of Fitzwilliam Museum).

At the conference, Hadeer shared an archive which looked at Tadros Shenouh Al-Manqabadi, a Coptic figure that influences not only the Coptic community but also impacted Egyptian modern history. He lived in the 19th /20th century and he had great input in establishing the Coptic Museum 1910 and he owned his own newspaper.

You can read more about Hadeer’s conference experience 2023 – and an abstract of her talk – here.

We were delighted to be able to support Hadeer to attend and speak at the conference in Leiden and thank her for sharing her wonderful experience with the wider ITP network.

Enjoy!!
