Museums Association Conference Gateshead 2023: ITP Report

We are very pleased to share the ITP report from our programme at the 2023 Museums Association Conference. Each year the International Training Programme organise a week-long programme structured around the Museums Association (MA) annual conference. The 2023 MA Conference was held in Newcastle and Gateshead and was attended by five fellows:

  • Aprille Tijam (Philippines, ITP Fellow 2019), Senior Manager, Exhibitions and Collections, Ayala Museum
  • Beatrice Adeola Bamigbade (Nigeria, ITP Fellow 2022), Assistant Chief Conservator, Unity Museum, National Commission for Museum and Monuments (NCMM)
  • Fatma Sezin Dogruer (Turkey, ITP Fellow 2009), Culture and Tourism Expert (Architect), Ministry of Culture and Tourism
  • Sanjeewani Widyarathne (Sri Lanka, ITP Fellow 2019), Education Promoting Officer, Colombo National Museum
  • Yanoa Pomalima Carrasco (Peru, ITP Fellow 2022), Museum and Heritage Consultant, Ministry of Culture

Additionally, we were joined by three more ITP fellows for the conference days:

  • Beimote Ngozi Etim (Nigeria, ITP Fellow 2017), Principal Policy Officer, Currency Museum, Central Bank of Nigeria
  • Cynthia Iroube (Nigeria, ITP Fellow 2010), Chief Curator, National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM)
  • Ma. Yohana Frias (Philippines, ITP Fellow 2018), Exhibition Designer, National Museum of the Philippines

The theme of the 2023 MA Conference was ‘The Power of Museums.’ In addition to the conference, a programme of visits was organised which included trips to The Discovery Museum, Great North Museum: Hancock, Hadrian’s Wall, and Beamish: The Living Museum of the North.
