In April 2024 we were delighted to give an ITP Research Grant to Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed Abd el-Salam (Egypt, ITP Fellow 2013).

Mohamed, who is Assistant Professor of Archaeology & Museum Studies, in the Archaeology Faculty, Ain Shams University in Cairo, used his research grant to work on the launch and operating plan of the first Childrens Museum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The goal for Mohamed’s research was to build and prepare a full scientific proposal for a Childrens Museum in Samarkand city in Uzbekistan with the hope of preparing the ground to launch the first museum for children in this area, supporting the local community.

Mohamed has now completed his research and prepared a final report – which you can read here.
Mohamed’s report is both detailed and uplifting. It shares his research, his working methods and outcomes and the positive reactions the idea of a museum, dedicated to children, received. I particularly loved the idea of encouraging children to learn and understand more about museums given that they will be the custodians of the museum of the future.
We were delighted to be able to support Mohamed in launching this new museum and encourage you all to read his report which shares his research and experience with the wider ITP network.
