(Pinky) Htet Myo Htut Aung

U Thant House

Museum Coordinator

Country: Myanmar

ITP Year: 2024

Biography

Pinky is currently based in Paris where she works as a Curator and Art Consultant, but she previously worked as Museum Coordinator, for U Thant House in Myanmar. Pinky was originally the only employee at the museum, and was therefore responsible for conducting research on the collections; curating gallery displays; guiding visitors; cultivating relationships with donors and government ministries; and, as the museum also served as a space for learning about global issues, organizing conferences and seminars on challenges such as peace, tolerance, and the environment.

Currently Pinky is living in Paris and contributing to the museum as a consultant for design, website development, and developing teaching aids for a new education programme.

Pinky has a strong interest in museum education, as the concept of visiting museums for educational purposes is still a niche concept in Myanmar. She is currently working on encouraging schools, teachers, and young people to visit the museum and utilize the educational materials they have on offer. The programme is still in the pilot stage, and she is hoped the ITP could provide her with inspiration, new ideas, and methods to better engage with students and children.

During the ITP, Pinky looked forward to enriching her professional skills and knowledge in conservation, collection management, exhibition curation, and fundraising. She was excited to share museum experiences with the 2024 ITP fellows, and to learn how others are handing sensitive topics such as navigating peacetime and decolonization.

At the British Museum

During her time at the British Museum, Pinky was based in the Department of Asia and her UK partner placement was spent at Glasgow Museums.

Pinky’s participation on the International Training Programme was generously supported by the Charles Wallace Burma Trust.
