Biography

Qurat is a civil servant, a commissioned officer working at the National Assembly of Pakistan. She can work across any department and her responsibilities vary – currently she is working as a Public Relations Officer.

Professionally Qurat is an archaeologist and enjoys every aspect of archaeology. For a long time she has been working in the field carrying out surveys, excavations and documentation, (dealing with antiquities from in situ to showcasing in the museum) which have become her prime interests in recent years. Qurat has worked on Buddhist sites and likes to explore built heritage of Muslim and Hindu periods e.g. art & architecture.

Her main work as a field archaeologist was to devise and execute projects such as surveys, excavations, report writing and so on. She supported students in fieldwork and helped them with their research. Qurat facilitated teaching and learning within the museum by delivering lectures to the students on museology and teaching them basics of museum studies such as cataloguing, registration and packing and transportation of museum objects. She also held workshops and seminars for students and scholars in collaboration with foreign and local missions.

Following her participation on the ITP in 2017, Qurat was a PhD Student at Ca’ Foscari, University of Venice in Italy.

Aside from archaeology, Qurat takes an interest in current affairs and loves to read.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme 2017, Qurat al Ain was based in the Asia Department and spent her partner placement with Lincoln Museum and the University of Nottingham Museum.

In 2017 participants were asked to develop a proposal for an Asahi Shimbun Display – a temporary exhibition in Room 3 at the British Museum – based around a ‘spotlight’ object.  Qurat al Ain worked with fellow Elnzeer Tirab (Curator, Khalifa House, Sudan) on her exhibition proposal project, entitled Path of Renunciation: Clothing as Symbol of Ascetic Life.

Qurat al Ain’s participation on the International Training Programme was generously supported by the Thriplow Charitable Trust and the Rangoonwala Foundation.
