Biography

Ruqaiya is Head of the Information Department at Oman Across Ages Museum, where her work is mostly curatorial. Ruqaiya is responsible for studying artefacts and providing interpretations, a process she conducts with a collaborative group of experts, researchers, and translators.

Ruqaiya is also responsible for writing and developing brochures and leaflets for visitors, and display panels. She also supports the education team in developing programmes and workshops for children. Currently she is working on the launch of specialized museum tours which will be available to the public.

Ruqaiya has an MA in History and is interested in the fields of heritage and legacy, and how sustainability and identity can be achieved through studying our heritage. Recently, she has been working on research about the techniques of writing for museums and ways this can encourage visitors to interact more objects.

During her time on the ITP, Ruqaiya looked forward to learning more about gallery redisplays, specifically on how to develop an engaging narrative through reinterpretation. She was also looking forward to the opportunity to practice working internationally and embracing the possibilities of establishing connections for future collaborations. She hoped that by meeting new people and exchanging knowledge and experiences, she would be able to share her learning with her colleagues at OAAM.

At the British Museum

During her time at the British Museum, Ruqaiya was based in the Department of Middle East and her UK partner placement was spent at Manchester Museum, Manchester Art Gallery and Whitworth Art Gallery.

Roqaya’s participation on the International Training Programme was generously supported by The Al Tajir Trust.
