Biography
Chaoxiang is the Deputy Director of Collections Management at Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, a UNESCO world heritage site and home to the iconic terracotta warriors. Chaoxiang is responsible for the daily management and scientific protection of the museum’s collections and manages public displays and exhibitions. He also conducts scientific research on the collection and leads archaeological excavations.
Currently, Chaoxiang is working on several upcoming exhibitions about the Emperor Qinshihuang’s mausoleum and the Qin civilization where his department are responsible for providing access to the collection. As well as this, commissioned by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China, his team are planning to publish a work manual for the preservation of museum collections to provide guidance for the practice of collection management in Chinese museums. He is also currently overseeing the construction of a warehouse upgrade, to provide better storage conditions for the museum’s collection.
During the ITP, Chaoxiang looked forward to visiting the British Museum’s Chinese collections, particularly from the Qin and Han dynasties. He hoped to gain specific knowledge on collection management, storage, documentation and conservation, and aims to share his learning with his colleagues with a view to establishing future collaborations and knowledge exchanges.

During his time at the British Museum, Chaoxiang was based in the Department of Asia and his UK partner placement was spent at Tyne & Wear Museums and Archives, Newcastle.
