Biography

As a Curator & Keeper at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Heba is responsible for the late period and Ptolemaic sarcophagi, Greco-Roman sculptures and the Nubian collection from Ballana & Qustul.

Heba is a committee member for the Registration and Documentation of the artefacts in the basement of the Egyptian Museum. She also participates in various different committees which cover the Museum’s redisplay, surveys, collection management, conservation and documentation for classified Greek & Roman artefacts such as jewellery, accessories, textiles, sculptures and architectural elements (stelae and offering tables).

In the galleries, Heba participates in writing explanation labels for the objects on display and conducts daily condition checking of the collections to be sure they are in a good condition and evaluates the museum galleries to improve the visit circulation.

Heba helps scholars & researchers who are studying and photographing objects from the collections.  She guides official visitors in both English and Arabic and she also participants in the educational programmes and different community events that the Museum organises to connect children and people with disabilities with their culture and civilization.

Heba has been involved in many projects such as “Egyptian Museum Wooden Coffin, Conservation & Documentation Project” which was funded by the American Embassy in Cairo. She was also a member in The Egyptian-European Project of Transforming the Egyptian Museum in Cairo as she worked with the British Museum on the redisplay of galleries 49 and 50.

Heba is currently studying for a Master’s in Museums and Archaeological Sites Management in the Faculty of Archaeology at Ain Shams University and her thesis is titled Redisplay of the Ballana & Qustul collection in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.  She was particularly keen to see how the Nubian Collections are displayed in the British Museum, hoping for inspiration for the displays she is responsible for at the Egyptian Museum.

On the personal level, Heba was looking forward to visiting a new country and to meeting colleagues from around the world and learning more about their cultures and traditions with a view to making new friends and identifying possible future collaborations.

At the British Museum

During her time at the British Museum, Heba was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan and her UK partner placement was spent at Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum and Whitworth Art Gallery.

Heba’s participation on the International Training Programme was generously supported by the Aall Foundation.
