Biography
Mengjie works in the Foreign Collection Department at the National Museum of China as an Assistant Research Fellow. The department is responsible for collecting material evidence reflecting the progress of world civilizations and for carrying out research and academic exchanges to enrich their collections. Mengjie has worked in the department for eight years, and in that time has supported with the documentation of new acquisitions, preservation and conservation, and exhibitions. Now her work mostly sees her responsible for collection management.
During the ITP, Mengjie was looking forward to gaining a thorough understanding of the British Museum’s approach to managing its collections and the process of acquisitions. She was also interested in visiting the Islamic, Sasanian and Roman collections as her department has recently obtained a large collection of glassware from these periods, and Byzantine coins.
Mengjie also looked forward to learning about education and exhibitions, particularly how to use these as tools to engage audiences through collaboration.
At the British Museum
During her time at the British Museum, Mengjie was based in the Department of Asia and her UK partner placement was spent at Lincoln Museum and the University of Nottingham Museum.
